The following are questions and answers frequently asked about our conservatories and our services......

Q: How long does the survey last?
A: About 45 minutes to 1 hr.

Q: Is the survey free and without obligation? Will I have to make a decision there and then?
A: The survey is free and you are under no obligation to buy. We will prepare a written quotation and attach a computer generated sketch of your proposed conservatory. This will be sent to you within a few days of the survey. Castle operates a complete hassle free sales policy. Once we have provided you with a quotation it is then your decision to take the next step and contact us to further discuss your requirements.

Q: How long does it take to complete the conservatory?
A: Once you have accepted the quotation and paid your deposit, work usually starts on the building works within 4 - 6 weeks. The whole conservatory should be finished within 4 - 5 weeks depending on the weather which can hold up the building and fitting works.

Q: How deep are the foundations?
A: Foundations comply with building regulations and are anything from 600mm to 1 m depending on site and soil.

Q: Will I need planning permission?
A: Depends on many things - your local Council, size of conservatory, whether you have any other extensions to your house ie a garage which has been added to the original plans, whether you're in a conservation area etc. Please look at the page on Planning Permission for more information.

Q: How thick is the double glazing?
A: 28mm.

Q: How thick is the roof?
A: As standard, we fit 25mm thick polycarbonate roofs. The glass roof is 28mm double glazed with toughened safety glass.

Q: How thick is the dwarf wall?
A: About 260mm thick - two rows of brickwork with a cavity through the middle containing insulation.

Q: How much does underfloor heating cost to install?
A: On a conservatory about 3m x 4.6m - about £1,085.00.

Q: Is it more expensive to have a conservatory in woodgrain UPVc rather than white UPVc?
A: Yes, about £200 - £400 depending on size and shape.

Q: Will the new brickwork match our existing house bricks?
A: Yes, we will match existing to the best of our ability.

Q: I keep hearing about 'K' glass. Can you tell me what it is?
A: 'K' glass is a low emission glass which prevents heat loss through glass by reflecting the heat back into your conservatory.

Q: How much extra would it cost to have 'K' glass instead of ordinary toughened safety glass?
A: Upgrading to 'K' glass would add about 5% to the total cost of your conservatory ie if you have a £10,000 conservatory 'K' glass would add about £500 to the cost.

Q: Is Celsius glass available and what is it?
A: Yes, Celsius is a relatively new development and has an 'easy clean' finish with added heat reflective qualities.

Q: Do you sub-contract any of the work?
A: With the exception of specialist trades, the workforce is employed by us.
